International Workshop on Medical Applications of Microfluidics
An international Workshop on Medical Applications of Microfluidics, organized by the COMPETE center, was held between 19 and 21 September 2022 at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of the University of Ljubljana. Some of the lectures were held jointly with the training course on microbioreactors. 25 participants and 9 distinguished lecturers from 8 countries participated at this event.
The workshop was intended primarily for master’s and doctoral students and researchers who wanted to acquire the basics of microfluidics or upgrade their knowledge of the use of microfluidic devices in the field of medicine, and others, interested by these exciting topics.
The topics presented at the workshop were: fundamentals of microfluidics, microfabrication, biosensors, in-vitro diagnostics, point-of-care diagnostics, visualization, sorting, separation, and cell therapy with microfluidic devices, and blood therapy with microfluidic devices. In addition to lectures, the workshop also included laboratory demonstrations of certain tools or processes used in microfluidics. Finally, the informal part of the workshop allowed the participants to establish new connections and hold informal conversation about science and worldly topics. The detailed workshop programme is available here.
The organizing committee: Prof. Polona Žnidaršič Plazl, PhD (FCCT, COMPETE), Prof. Jure Derganc, Phd (FM, COMPETE), Tadej Kokalj, PhD, Borut Šketa and Blažka Orel (all COMPETE), Mojca Seručnik and Tadej Menegatti (both FCCT) and dr. Špela Zemljič Jokhadar (FM).
